Freaking highway

Have you noticed how some songs make you so chipper that you want to laugh and dance for the world to see? No?! What do you mean, no…? Oh well! Maybe that’s just me then… pfff, you’re so full of it! ? Anyway, Crystalline is one of these songs to me. It’s like a big bright light on a deserted street showing me the way… it’s telling me: Look it, not a narrow street but a freaking highway! What is keeping you?

The series is coming to an end… one last episode, the series finale left to write… and soon, it is time for you dear readers to hit the “replay button”. We all knew this day would come, such a great journey, right?! From the madness within to acknowledging the Puppet Master – and who knows standing up to him/her/it – to letting the inner-child live in harmony with one and realizing that on is not alone, Clearview follows the red thread that you are all starting to get familiar with:

“If you know you don’t know something, how do you get a clear view? It’s by asking.” – Marko Saaresto

Episode 9 – Crystalline

I think that Crystalline is the song that hit me the hardest when I first listened to Clearview. Of course, there is a reason behind this.?

The meaning you will give your life is up to you no safety guaranteed
But it will be amazing
– Poets of the Fall, Crystalline

End of September 2016, I was back to work part-time (after my burn-out) and although I wanted to believe that things were improving to the benefit of my recovery, they were not. It’s not that long ago… last year, give or take a few days. I remember, back then, how Crystalline came like out of nowhere and helped my unaware husband to lift me up and they both kept me standing until I could stand on my own. To this day, when I feel weak in the knees, Crystalline is the pillar I can lean on while catching my breath.

Place your hand against the wall and follow every contour till you’re free
– Poets of the Fall, Crystalline

I mean… how can he possibly know that kind of stuff, seriously?

Crystalline to the Clearview theme

I used the term “pillar” to describe Crystalline and I think that we all need such a pillar in our lives, whether it’d be a person or a place, right?! Because sometimes, the questions are just that, questions, and we cannot find any answers… we are asking though, swimming round and round while the questions are rebounding on the walls of the fishball we built to keep the world away.

What makes your prison
– Poets of the Fall, Crystalline

… and as we need help, Crystalline enters the stage… dragging us to its centre, showing us how grand it could be. Actually, it makes me think of what my husband usually tells me when doubt is trying to unsettle my heart. He says: “I wish you could see yourself the way I see you. I wish you could see how beautiful you are, just the way I do.” For some reasons, this is what I hear when I listen to Crystalline. (For the anecdote, I am using this song as ringtone for my someone special).

Here I am, look at me now, you’re living in a world of wonder
– Poets of the Fall, Crystalline

Time is going… fast, dragging us along and it can be overwhelming and overpowering… but I would add: only if we let it. To me, this is it. Let time be time, don’t worry about it, we are all connected and we are moving forward together. We cannot stop… and the Puppet Master or society or whatever, they can say what they want… they won’t stop us. They’ll have to lose with grace – or without, it is not our problem.

Past the point of no return
This labyrinth will up and burn
As bright as the puppet master grins
– Poets of the Fall, Crystalline

Hope, belief and faith… that is what Crystalline is and of course, beyond the obvious love exuding from the music.

You will stand a vision of your world of wonder
And play your hand, magician, like there’s no tomorrow
– Poets of the Fall, Crystalline

Clearview on what…

If I have not said this before – or in case you’ve forgotten that I did – I’ve got to now… Clearview is a rare jewel. At first, you look at it in secret, in the dim light and want to keep it to yourself, because it is different and you know you love it, but you’re not sure about the rest of the world. But you can’t hide forever from the light when it is that bright… and so, you start looking at all the facets, the colours, and how the light reflects in your jewel… and you cannot believe your eyes how beautiful it is, so you’ve got to tell them… all of them. This is how I describe Clearview, and anyone saying otherwise… I’d say they’re completely clueless; it’s a shame really for they’re missing something.

“If you know you don’t know something, how do you get a clear view? It’s by asking.” – Marko Saaresto

I want to say that Clearview, is a clear view of the journey we are all taking on. Once again Marko does not bring any answers because truth be told, he is on the same journey as we all are on. He is looking and maybe he has figured out some stuff along the way and he is sharing…

I ain’t so pure of heart myself that I can go and say how you should be
– Poets of the Fall, Crystalline

Do you know, the people we love have always the best of intentions and our best interest at heart… and because it is like that, sometimes we get lost without a clue of why. We hurt and don’t wanna see… but ultimately when we finally open our eyes and we’ll see:

Here I am, singing your song, believing, though the world’s asunder
This is our time and our love is crystalline
– Poets of the Fall, Crystalline

Next episode: The Finale!

Thanks for reading,
Take care! ?

About the series…

“Clearview is a clear view on things that you are unclear about basically, because […] it’s really, simply said it’s about asking. If you think you know something, that’s fine, but if you know you don’t know something, how do you get a clear view? It’s by asking. So, that’s basically what it’s about. But that’s a, I think also, a very big topic that we could really talk, like, a lot.”
– Marko Saaresto, August 2017 (transcript by Yours Truly)

Nothing more I can say about this one except this article is spot on for me. This song is like an elixir, it’s healing, if one would listen and take it’s advice to heart. It speaks the truth, though it may be so hard to see sometimes, but if you look a little closer, you’ll see, it’s clear, it’s crystalline. And we can grow brighter than the puppet master would let us and the labyrinth won’t keep us inside and lost. We really can be the designers of our own lives, hard or easy, we can do it.
If you can’t tell by now, I am a lyrics person. I just love a good line, it literally makes the song for me.
My favorite line from this one? “Play your hand magician…” SO GOOD! Marko’s lyrics are just so good!

Hmm… I guess we both are lyrics persons then. I would say that Poets of the Fall’s lyrics are empowering and that is one – among so many other – reasons they are so amazingly beautiful.

I am so pleased you liked that article!

By the way, thanks so much for taking the time to comment <3
