Misfit Heart

Misfit at Heart is my outlet, where my thoughts don’t need supervision… much. Here, I write about whatever I like, and as you’ve surely already noticed, it is mostly about my muses Poets of the Fall, me, myself and I… as well as all the writing in between. Here, you’ll always see “ the face I wear behind the grin“… my smile is genuine and warm. (Quote from Poets of the Fall song Passion Colors Everything from Revolution Roulette album, 2008.)

Poets of the Fall looking-glass

As an outlet, the sky is the limit… right?! I’ve tried to go for a diverse source of inspiration, but in the end, Poets of the Fall have stolen my heart. Their music and their creativity – both through inspiring lyrics and exceptional music videos – have set me on a path I cannot stray from. Misfit at Heart is a blog about me through Poets of the Fall looking-glass.

Poets of the Fall – Language of the heart

Music has shaped my life but has also changed it for the better. Today, there is not a day I spend in utter silence… unless I have a migraine… music is at the core of my being and yet, I am no musician. Maybe, just maybe I could be a musician of words or commonly called a poet. One of the reasons I love Poets of the Fall so much could be that, as fellow poets, we speak the same language: the one of the heart.

Poets of the Fall Carnival of Rust

In short, I am passionate about the Finnish band Poets of the Fall. I can tell you that it was love at first sight when I first heard and saw Carnival of Rust in March 2016. I listened to the entire discography within a week and bought the complete work, including the tenth anniversary DVD, the week after that. So, saying that I got hooked would be an understatement.

I discovered Poets of the Fall in a time of need. I never thought I would go such a long way. Their songs have pushed me to develop my own voice in my writing. In doing so, I have explored my inner-self and started feeling tall. I am not afraid of who I am anymore. They did that!

Carnival of Rust is a masterpiece in all aspects. It is, of course, a love song. Some of the verses taken out of context make for very powerful pep-talks though.

D’ you breath the name of your saviour in your hour of need […]
Of implication, insinuation and ill will, till’ you cannot lie still […]

My absolute favorite verse from Carnival of Rust is this one:

It’s all a game, avoiding failure, when true colors will bleed

In a nutshell, this is what I get from it. We are all playing the game of life, doing our utmost not to fail at anything we set out to do. At the same time, trying to remain true to ourselves, with the good and the bad, which we might be afraid to show because it could be what makes us fail.

Poets of the Fall Lyrics

You see, to me, a good song usually starts with the music… what I mean is that I find a song good because of the music first; but sometimes, a song goes straight to greatness just after a few notes… why? because of the words, the voice, the emotions that shoot like arrows straight to my heart. Poets of the Fall falls in that category. Daze, War, Choice Millionaire are but a few songs I absolutely adore.

Marko Saaresto is an incredible singer and an amazing lyricist. Marko has managed somehow to untie some very tight knots in my heart while I was struggling with a rather serious burn-out… I got in touch with my emotions again thanks to his way of putting his own out there… here, was an artist who spoke my language, the one of the soul and thus helped me pave my own path to recovery.

So yes! Misfit at Heart is very much about Poets of the Fall – my muses I started calling them – and how their words, music, and hearts pulled me through. In other words, it is very much about me, myself, and I…

Poets of the Fall quotes

As all word-nerd with an ounce of self-respect, I do love a good story whether it’d be from the pages of a book, a movie, or even a series. So, I even manage to turn my favorite Poets of the Fall quotes into my own personal healing wisdom… or pep-talk. I am passionate, nerdy, and very self-centered… If you understand any of what I wrote above, you understand what Misfit at Heart is mostly about… but then again, I might not have told you everything, where would be the fun in that?

Welcome to my world!
